The photographic archive of Orlando Ribeiro

The photographic archive of Orlando Ribeiro comprises more than 10 000 images taken in his numerous travels in Portugal and throughout the World. The collection is held at the Centro de Estudos Geográficos (CEG) de Lisboa which holds more than 50.000 original images dated mostly from between the 30s e 70s of the 20th century. They illustrate themes of the Physical and Human geography of a wide variety of places with special emphasis on Portugal and the Portuguese speaking African countries.

Among other geographers represented in the photographic archive of the CEG, the collection of images by Orlando Ribeiro is especially relevant, not only for its volume but also in terms of variety, informative value and artistic quality.
